Notes
Programme NoteThis piece was inspired by Manet’s painting Déjuner sur l’herbe & Debussy’s music. It consists of Debussy’s Fêtes Galantes Book 1, Syrinx & Chansons de Bilits which are preceded by recordings of country sounds which lead into a Debussy cypher & the first electronic interlude. This segues into the first song cycle. The second electronic interlude is based on the flute solo whose last note leads into the second song cycle.Again, the last note of this leads into the final electronic section. The whole piece plays without a break. I wanted to take the audience from an urban environment into a rural one. The three performers sit quietly talking as in the foreground figures in the painting. As the cypher in introduced in the bass, they get up & prepare for the performance.
