| Programme Note | "Working Through" exists in numerous different forms ranging from 1 to 8 instruments. Its structure is quite simple. In the full-length version the idea contained in the first bar occurs 48 times, each occurrence being similar to but not identical with all the others. Think of it as being like a gem with 48 facets each of which you inspect in turn. Alternatively, in keeping with the psychoanalytical nature of the title, think of the first bar as the 'insight' which is 'worked through' in 48 different situations. |
