| Programme Note | Programme Note The experience of loss can include a see-saw of emotions: shock, anger, denial, frustration, resentment, bewilderment, numbness, bleakness, blankness........as well as the more obvious sadness and grief. Performance Notes ACCIDENTALS -The usual convention of only notating an accidental at the beginning of the bar has been followed. Occasionally, however, a precautionary accidental - in brackets - has been included. GLISSANDI - The irregular noteheads indicated duration, not pitch. FLUTE - Quarter-tones . Bars 159 and 163. The symbol explaining these is included on the relevant page. PIANO - The unusual symbols underneath the low notes in the Bass Clef indicate cluster chords. All the notes to the bottom of the piano should be played. Each note should be detached. The effect should be like a dry drum beat. No pedal. |
