| Programme Note | In previous attempts, the music has only moved upwards. In this piece, the music also moves upwards. However, the concept of "infinity" can also imply that nothing ceases. Therefore, as well as moving upwards, the lower instruments keep beginning again, as later do all the instruments in turn. There are, once again "episodes" on the journey, but these are more extended than in the previous exercise. The piece ends with a simple 'episode' played by a quartet in unison over the other instruments. |
