| Programme Note | In The Last Virus, Kenneth Rea (writer) and Buxton Orr (composer) have used the simple theme of an autocratic Ringmaster whose discipline is progressively eroded, to explore some of the wider implications of the circus structure and provide a lively entertainment. Featuring masks, clowning, acrobatics, music hall routines, circus turns, musical numbers and a miniature oratorio, it opens up new possibilities in music theatre. A colourful collection of characters includes Chantal the Chanteuse, Brutalia and the Beats, Chin-Chin the two-headed man and the Wild Men of Xanadu. |
