| Programme Note | Hurrah! Its harvest time! At first, it is the piano that does the harvesting. It is a struggle. The oboe "announces" the note when it is successfully harvested. It is then "stored" at the bottom of the piano. This happens for the first 3 notes. For the next two notes and the two notes after this, the oboe takes over the harvesting, the piano indicating which notes are to be gathered. The oboe "gathers" by joining together each of the notes. The oboe then harvests the rest of the notes, with the piano storing each note nearer to the crop. A slower, lyrical secion follows, using all the stored notes. The oboe then shows another group of notes ( the original notes in retrograde) sprouting upwards. The piano "crops" each of these notes in turn and throws them upwards into the air! |
