| Programme Note | Requiem for the Innocent is a work in eight movements for choir, chamber orchestra and soloists. At its heart, this piece is a call for each of us to acknowledge and embrace those who experience – or who have experienced – adversity and injustice. This may include, for example, a child with a life- threatening illness, a prisoner who has been wrongfully convicted for a crime that he or she did not commit, or refugees who are forced to leave the country of their birth. Even if they are not known personally to us, we are aware that many people in our world today – and throughout our whole world – are having to cope with the reality and unfairness of their particular circumstances. Yet no matter the darkness or fear that exists, there is light and hope in the knowledge that, in time, all will be well. This piece, therefore, seeks to highlight the courage that cannot be diminished and the voices that will not be silenced. |
