| Programme Note | In the beginning, there is just one solid house. It starts to crumble. An individual (clarinet) is trying desperately to get out! The music slows. The house disintegrates. The individual (now bassoon and flute) manages to get out from under the ruins and rubble. Then all the houses begin to collapse. People escape, sometimes in a 'follow my leader' fashion. The piece ends with a lonely devastated landscape. There are no more people. Debris falls from the sky. Society is beginning to collapse, but who is aware of it? -Jane Serter, May 2019 |
