| Programme Note | The music moves downwards through each register of the piano. The figuration is rapid, but slows when the music tries to move upwards and 'stay afloat'. The piece becomes faster and more frenzied as desperate attempts are made not to be submerged. This is followed by a slow and bleak section which includes a few brief bars of an upward, more lyrical nature. The music ends with a faster, inevitable and final plunge into the deep. |
