| Programme Note | The Anguished Heart and the Distant Ones The generations are severed. Jewish life is fragmented. In Eastern Europe in the nineteenth century, those left behind wonder about their family in strange and distant lands. In the Nazi era, parents send their children to safety abroad. The generations long for contact with each other, but there is often none. The 'anguished heart' is represented mainly by tonal music, and the 'distant one' mainly by serial techniques. |
