| Programme Note | The title comes from the National Galleries of Scotland online catalogue number and refers to a model by Edgar Degas of a young dancer executing the Arabesque penchee pose, where the dancer, while steady on one foot, raises the other as high as possible. Musically, the term 'arabesque' could be freely interpreted as a 'flourish'. |
