| Programme Note | 'Two Hundred Years' is the culmination of the 2014 Bicentenary Composer in Residence programme in Gartnavel Royal Hospital. Composer Andrew Cruickshank worked with the Common Wheel service users and patients on the Gartnavel Royal Site to write this new work, in celebration and reflection of the 200th year of organised psychiatric care in the West of Glasgow. The lyrics are almost entirely written by those using mental health services, and as such they provide a moving insight to the lived experiences of those on campus, as well as speaking of the universal human themes which bring us together: love, death, humour, legend, science, faith and fragility. |
