Programme NoteIn 1996 I wrote POSTLUDE FOR STRINGS in which the players leave the platform one by one, until no one is left. The work was written as a protest against cuts in music education, principally the closure of Castle Toward, the home of many youth orchestras, and the introduction of charges for instrumental tuition. In 2013 I write PRELUDE FOR STRINGS as a new beginning, where as a follow-up to their departure, the players return one by one, until the orchestra is reassembled, vigourous, defiant, and a new chapter begins...

Both pieces may be performed chronologically, consecutively as:

POSTLUDE & PRELUDE for Strings.
