| Programme Note | This is a piece of recycling! In 2005 I entered - along with over 500 other people - a BBC Radio 4 and St Martin-in-the-fields Carol competition. The set words were by two lady priests from the church, and were rather strange - being more about social justice than Christmas! Inevitably it didn't win the £1000 prize, but I always thought that - with different words - something might be done with the music. A few days ago I was looking at the score once again, and noted that the metre of the verse was 12.10, 12.10, etc. I looked up a hymnal and found that there was only one hymn with this metre - the well known 'Worship The Lord in the Beauty of Holiness'. The words fit my music like the proverbial glove, and there were also 5 verses, the same as in the original text. I immediately got to work, making minor alterations and re-writing the organ part for the piano, and within 24 hours it was re-incarnated! -John Weeks, 9th September 2012 |
