| Notes | 'The Joy of The Lord', for piano solo, was written in 2003. The composition was revised about two years later. This set of notes is a theoretical analysis of how the piece has been composed. The revised version has been used for the purpose of this analysis. |
| Programme Note | The piece has a strong spiritual message on the theme of 'The Joy of The Lord', based upon the scripture from the book of Nehemia from The Old Testament. To illuminate the meaning of the music, the composer offers a short commentary after the musical examples and technical description which describes the spiritual message of the music. Scripture examples are referred to throughout the text and their exact location in the Bible can be found on the appendix on page ten. Indeed, it is possible to make a Bible study out of the verse from Nehemia and this is something which will broaden your understanding of this composition. |
