| Programme Note | This version of Blackbird for Concert Band consists of two themes. THe first comes from Stray Birds, the words of which are as follows: As I went over the water The water went over me. I saw two little blackbirds Sitting on a tree; The one called me a rascal, The other called me a thief; I took up me little black stick, And knocked out all their teeth. The contrasting middle theme comes from the second movement of the piano trio Shrew in the Kitchen subtitled "jam session". |
