| Programme Note | Vibrancy: Harmonies from Sight into Sound is a suite whose inspiration comes from the world of the visual arts. "At the Circus" takes its cue from the pictures of circus performers in Paris as depicted by Degas, Seurat, Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso. "Sunsets and Lakes" was inspired by the vivid and intense expressionist landscape paintings of Gabriele Munter, Nolde and Kandinsky. Finally, "Dynamism" takes its cue from the rhythmic, energetic depictions of movement as found in the works of the Futurist artists, Balla, Boccioni and Severini. The music was written for Piano 40. Initially only one piece was composed but later the other movements were added as a tribute to the ensemble playing of the members of Piano 40. |
