| Programme Note | 'Stray Birds', completed June 1987, consists of settings of twelve poems or sayings, and takes its name from the central poem by Rabindranath Tagore. The opening introduction, dramatic and forceful, is based on the contradiction between two notes, an augmented octave apart. This idea of contradiction or incongruity, gives unity to the work as a whole. |
