| Programme Note | As everyone knows, there are clear correspondences between the electromagnetic spectrum and the sound spectrum. To write this piece, I brought a simple exponential transformational process to bear on each of the appropriate parameters of the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum, making extensive use of hyperbolic functions - in fact, the whole thing depends heavily on hyperbole - to create an audible parallel in which a kaleidoscopic swirl of complex colours is represented, starting with a deep mustard yellow tint (bars 1-7), moving to bottle green (bars 17-21) and ending with sky blue, sky indigo and sky violet (bars 29 - end). To comply with health and safety requirements I stopped short of UV. |
