| Programme Note | We all like to be scared, within limits. That's true even from a very young age. Just play peek-a-boo with a 2-year-old : they're delighted each time you hide behind your hands, and then, surprise surprise! you make a sudden shock reappearance. But misjudge it slightly (which, with a big beard and horrific expression, is all too easy for someone like me) and there are tears! It's how we gradually learn to deal with the threats that surround us. In this piece, the drama does not only reside in the music. The performers are asked to act it out onstage - and off. It's a tense melodrama ... if you're 2 years old, that is! ... |
