| Programme Note | Muse Lane in Cowcaddens, Glasgow, in the late 19th century was one of the worst slums in Europe. One William Geddes was born there in 1849. His son (stage name Jack Hugo) became a music hall entertainer and his violin passed through the generations to his great great grandson Ruaridh Geddes (b 1999) who became a talented performer and student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, about a hundred yards from Muse Lane. The piece incorporates Jack Hugo's signature tune 'Cowcaddens by the Sea.' JMG |
