| Notes | to Margaret O'Sullivan Farrell |
| Programme Note | In about 1973 I wrote a piece for the St Stephens' Singers, a 9-voice choir based in University College Dublin and conducted by Margaret O'Sullivan. It was called 'Mangaire' and the words were written for me by Gabriel Rosenstock, who in a few minutes produced what in my opinion is a fine and striking piece of poetry .... Not having seen Margaret for decades I've written this piece on the occasion of getting back in contact, and for auld lang syne! It's definitely not a transcription of the original piece, which was full of uniquely vocal idioms, but it takes the simple harmonic ideas from each of the 4 verses and makes of them a patchwork of silk, linen, cotton and homespun. |
