| Programme Note | Music and ritual are inextricably intertwined. The very act of performance is inherently ritualistic and the elemental nature of percussion instruments has been exploited by many cultures throughout history to bridge the transition between sacred and profane. In this piece, shimmering bells and thunderous drums weave obsessive rhythms until all tempo is erased by Almglocken playing free-floating tremolando. The ritual closes with the reverberation of bells. |
