| Programme Note | The original translations of the texts are to be found in Vol V, (parts 1 & 2) of the "Chinese Classics" which contains the "Schi-King" (Book of Poetry). This was compiled 12th - 7th centuries BC. In his introduction to Part 1, Dr. Legge states that the book, which comprised 305-311 poems, existed before the time of Confucius (551-487 BC), and concludes that "Confucius' service to the Schi was in the impulse which he gave to the study of it." |
