| Programme Note | Chanukah is a joyous Jewish Festival which takes place at about the same time as Christmas. It celebrates the re-dedication of the temple in Jersualem after it had been sacked by the Syrian Antiochus IV. Candles are lit for 8 days and there are parties, games and gifts for children. One of the games played is that involving a four-sided top or "dreydl." The piece is variations on a Folk -tune : "S'vivon." |
